Fortunately everything went well, we all enjoyed very much the experience of this activation, including the 26h trip in a 11m long Sailing boat. We are also proud for the excellent feedback we´ve got, not only from Amateur Radio community but also from the society in general (news at Radio Station, Newspapers and Television). DL5XL/P- It's been six years since I last operated from Helgoland Island in the IOTA contest, and it sure was great to be back. As poor conditions had to be expected, I decided to use a beam antenna and high power, even though this meant that about 100 kilograms of freight had to be shipped to the island. Luckily, DF6QC and DG1BBU were there to help
with the setup of the antennas. Conditions throughout the contest were as bad as expected (or even worse), but the high level of activity in Europe really helped to keep one busy. A few hours after the start of the contest, I suddenly noticed an intermittent SWR on the beam
antenna. It turned out that one of the traps was damaged. As I did not want to lose too much operating time, I decided to continue on the Windom type wire antenna. This worked quite well for me on 20m, but
was not feasible on 15m, as the antenna was not designed for that band. Luckily, the 10m band performance of my beam was not affected by the faulty trap, so I still had good antennas for four of the five bands used in the contest. In the end, I lost quite a few QSOs and multipliers on 15m, but managed to keep up a rate of more than 64 QSOs
per hour throughout the entire contest, so I really had fun! I was even able to exceed the result of my last contest participation from Helgoland in 2002 by a small margin (before log checking, that is). I'd like to thank RSGB for organizing this fun event! After the contest, I still had a day left to enjoy the hot summer weather at the
beach before I returned to my home QTH.

ES0/YL2PN- My 1st attempt for IOTA Dx-pedition. Too late (2008.07.26 08:30 UTC) arrived at this unknown for me island. Antennas were partially disrupted in Saturdays evening by Ruhnu guests participating in local barbeque with terrible singing, dancing, crying and using some alcho. I did not checked my antena farm during contest and check out the damages only when RSGB IOTA Game was over. 1st panncook always is not the best one. F/DL3OCH/P- First time that I attended in QRP class but it seems like EU058 was the right IOTA for that. All the rare Multis did not hear me but I made much more QSOs than expected. It was a lot of fun even so my laptop died on the island and I had to log on paper.

Four-square for 40m and Butternut HF6V for 80m, (next year I must remember to find a way to re-tune the Butternut from the CW end of the band to the SSB end, or better still put up an antenna with a wider bandwidth).

Very enjoyable contest - nice to have activity on 10/15
- We like the lack of a 24hr setup rule - SDI is a
joy to use. Most of our ops are not hot on the keyboard
so we use a log chit which is passed to the logger to
enter. This is our get out of jail card! Very useful.

G4FAL- Conditions seemed a little poorer than last year but 10m was in good summer condition. I tried to use the five bands and two modes fairly evenly which I think proved quite helpful. I was glad to have some good runs from my conservation area station. Thanks to everyone for the qsos. I still find the cw exchange complex and keep the speed at 26WPM, which is
about as fast as I can copy and type the complicated exchanges! I think I should have taken up contesting at a younger age - but my xyl would disagree with this!

G4HZV- FT1000MP + Acom 1000

G4IIY- A part-time entry, mainly focused on running for the few hours that I was on the air. The low mult score reflects that. First time that I have been at home for IOTA for over ten years, having operated at GU8D for many of those and because this event falls on the same w/end as we usually take my track car to a motor event in Germany. IOTA from home is a lot cheaper!

Much better result for me compared to last year with
some good runs. Multipliers are king to post even a modest score so my strategy, for what it's worth, is a few good runs and then SP for multipliers and finish off the last hour with just mults. Next year needs even more effort to work the mults which are there but you have to join the queue.

There are a few SSB Qs in the log but I couldnt cope with the endless repeats so gave up after 5 Qs.

Thank you for the Qs everyone and see you next year from 5B4.

Cheers,

GJ2A- Low-band antenna problems, so decided not to stay up all night and submitted in 12-hr category again. Fortunately had unusual late-night propagation on 20.

GJ6YB- After a smaller scale expedition to Jersey last year, the Bristol Contest Group decided to use a full field-day line up this year. Two 80ft mobile towers were hauled across on the ferry, plus a good selection of antennas and generators.
All the equipment worked faultlessly through the contest, mainly down to a lot of planning and preparation, and also due to a change of software. An excellent site really made a difference. The antennas caused a minor stir on the island and were even mentioned on Radio Jersey.
Propagation was not good on 10m, except for a lucky Es opening to the UK and Ireland on Saturday evening. 20m was particularly good for us with about 170 mults on that band alone and some propagation over the pole to Japan and Oceania.
Weather was sunny and warm, a change from some recent IOTA expeditions. Overall it was one of the most enjoyable IOTA expeditions Bristol CG have done.

GM0B- Enjoyed the contest very much; looking forward to next year rain, fog, sun, thunder, but no snow and those midges ! Great weekend was had by all.

GM2T- Another great contest. The weather was outstanding and we all managed a nice sun tan. As always the hospitality shown by the island people was second to none Technical stuff - First full contest running a wireless network which ran superbly. Wintest proved again the best for software. Only issues were a Faulty Barrel connector in our 80M coax run to our Titanex and our 10M rotator not working which turned out to be that the cows had chewed our rotator cable!!!!!

GM5C- Fantastic weekend but laptop crashed after event.
Two weeks later we recovered the log - phew!

GM7A- Our 1st attempt at IOTA Contest Dx-pedition, plenty of learning opportunities for station setup in 2009 and we've never seen so many midges in one wee spot at the same time! Thanks to Oban Marina for the hospitality.

GM7V- Great contest as always - brilliant sunny weather and lots of multipliers. Tough setting up antennas with only 3 ops.

GW8K- Great contest enjoyed by all. This year we invested in better computers networking links, coupling this up to new contest software was a big learning curve but it proved its worth. As this year we broke into the 3,000,000 claimed band. Sunday night was party night as No Beer on site during contest. So the B.A.R.S. RFI team will be back next year for another RF fix.

K3TW- "Band conditions were good for QRP."

K4VAC- Everyone had a great time this year. We more than doubled our score from two years ago. We experimented with a variety of antennas, but our work-horses were an 80 meter Carolina Windom on the run station and a vertical on the multiplier station.

K6NA- Thank you for sponsoring this fine event. Looking forward to some good conditions, so we can work the rare European islands!

K7RFW- Not really contesting, just seeing how I get out from the western edge of the Rocky Mountains during this poor propagation era. Not too shabby, my BuddyPole with 100 watts pulled in Costa Rica, Hawaii (easy, no mountains to the west), and Virginia, even on the dead bands for me. Heard Europe and Argentina but not well enough to get through the pile ups.

K8CQ- Rain gutter and flag pole antennas restrict working DX. Very noisy static on 80 and 40. Still fun. 13h oprg time spread over 24h.
Heard KG6DX, ZL2BR, JA1KPA loud on 40m 0700-0800Z. Could not get them. Too bad. I would have loved to give them NA-058 multiplier. Noted several stations I worked would begin calling CQ before I had chance to give them the NA-058. They apparently did not expect it. So they may not have it in their logs. Working QSK helps to avoid this. See you next year and hope to do better with increased sunspot activity.

K9NW- It was nice to work both of the first time activations from NA-229 and NA-234.

K9YC- Not as much operating time as I would like (9 hrs), thanks to time off to attend a very interesting NCCC/MLDXCC meeting. Conditions not good either -- nothing on 160 or 10, only one Q on 80. Thanks to the DXpeditions, who added nine new islands and two new 40M countries to my log since starting over two years ago when I moved to CA from IL (2,000 miles)!

LZ1PJ- Hello,
Taking part in this years IOTA contest was fun as usual.
Unfortunately being a small gun with modest power and antenna did not allow me to take full advantage. Only a few stations from outside EU heard, still less worked. Missing one of the bands (no 80m antenna) also lowered my chances. Anyway, almost 500 contacts logged. First time ever used N1MM Logger. I installed it just a few minutes before the contest. A nice program, but I had to learn it on the run. Surely I used just a small percentage of its features,
and should spend some time learning more of it (packet spots, keying interface + built in keyer, TRX control etc.) for future contests. One major thing I missed (maybe it is in-there, but I did not find how to do it) was that I could not check if a station is a new multiplier, before I worked it. So, many times I spend a lot of time calling a station that I thought was a multiplier, which actually wasn't. End, a funny story at the end of the contest. Forgetting to look at the watch, I was calling CQ a whole minute after the end of the contest. An angry opponent warned me on the air, and, wow, I saw I really was off the contest time. So I deleted the last contact made, a UA9 station. Well, next year I will have to make more preparation work, new antennas, computer interfacing etc. Finally, forgetting all about problems, the good stuff is that I managed to work a few new for me IOTAs.

It was a genuine error with minimal impact on outcome

MM0Q- Probably the BEST contest in the world!! My eighth year from Tanera Mor in the Summer Isles as a DXpedition station.Great fun as always with lots of stations to work. Thanks to all who make the special efforts to activate Islands for the contest and to everyone who worked

MM0YEC- Found condx hard but text was fun anyway!

MM3M- Our best effort yet from the Island of Arran EU-123! Most of stations worked were in Europe but it was good to work into VK7 on 40m and the Far East on 20m. This year we used separate serial number sequences for the run and multiplier stations rather than risk an unreliable
network connection between the two stations. Our 40m antenna
used at the multiplier SOAPBOX: station worked really well, 4 S units up into VK7 over on the 165ft doublet, as it should being just 25 metres from the beach! Where were all the Caribbean, Pacific and Japanese islands?
Rigs FT2000 with SPE Expert amp - A4S antenna for 40-10m and an 80m inverted V on the Run station
FT1000Mk V Field and amp with Doublet and vertical and a VK2ABQ for 14/15 and 10m on the SP station.

MM3T- Elecraft K2/100 and 80m doublet. Located about 50m from the sea and about 20m above it. Blocked to the North but clear path to the SE. Percentage of UK to the rest on Europe really low on all bands. When I did work a UK station they were 599 so looked like a poor turn out from the UK for the contest. Lots of DXpedition stations to be had though. Didn't do the full 12hrs due to family commitments and
watching Otters/Choughs. Weather was brilliant, sunny for the duration of our stay with temperature reaching the high 20s! Had a whale of a time and already looking forward to next year. Thanks to all who took the time to work me.

N0YO- First IOTA Contest is several years. Had a great time but poor propagation and thunderstorms made for several hours lost operating time. Well there's always next year!

N1LI- A very enjoyable weekend with terrific activity. Tough to compete from North America with the European multiops; just cannot keep up with the multipliers on the low bands - congrats to GJ6YB, ES2Q, DR6IOTA, and GM7V for amazing 10M+ scores!

N2WN- I was still copying GW8K at 0133Z loud, particularly considering I was pointed into the Pacific and he was the only EU signal. Whatever they were doing worked well!

Conditions were more challenging this year. 20 produced the most QSOs, but never had a good opening into EU or Asia or the Pacific. 15 was better than last year with a decent EU opening and a quick visit from FO5RH. There was a little more Stateside participation which helped on 80. GM3POI had the best signal out of Europe on 80.

The KL7DX DXpedition was a nice catch on 40. They built in strength, unlike the rest of the West.

Added a few new ones to my IOTA total... need to send in an application some day ;o)

N4A- Conditions were not great, but we were able to increase the number of qsos, mults and points over 2007. A large portion of our contacts were with local USA stations.

Our WX conditions were much better than 2007. Calm and relatively cool, we were in much better mental condition after setting up the antenna mast and the stations.

We had three operators this year, and the extra manpower really helped over the entire contest period.

The 20:00z busy period was late, but the hourly totals were all
better than 2007, but spread out more evenly. 20m was the best band but 40m and 80m were disappointing due to high noise levels.

The run station was an Elecraft K2 at 100w into either a 40m dipole or an 80m dipole. Both dipoles were hung from a 38 foot mast at right angles to each other. They were fed with ladder line and a tuner, and used for all bands. The mult station was a TenTec Delta into a Butternut vertical.

The Cape Lookout has no electrical service, so our electrical power was from a 3500 watt generator.

Thanks to everyone for a great contest.

N4LF- Great fun being the hunted for a change; unfortunately, condx were not good at this QTH. Great contest. Thanks!

N4PN- GOOD ACTIVITY - BAD NUMBERS SFI 66. THANKS TO ALL WHO
MADE IT INTERESTING BY ACTIVATING SO MANY ISLANDS.
RATE METER ON 20 SSB WAS AT 252 ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON.
THANKS TO RSGB AND ALL WHO MADE THIS POSSIBLE.

N6VR/P- Nice to work what EU we did, but condx still poor. Not very many JAs worked. Very good location, could work almost anything we heard.

NC4MI- My first time in a IOTA contest.

ND0C- I wish there had been more activity from the Caribbean. Propagation was generally poor and 20 was very noisy here. But I was still happy with the overall results for QRP! Thanks for a good activity and awards program!

NG7Z- I didn't have much time available so just made a few contacts.

NS9I- Bad conditions for Midwest U.S.A. but still had fun!

NU4B- Rough conditions, but always fun. Best QSO - ES2Q on 40 meters. Maybe next year we will have some sunspots to help my 4 watt signal. Rig: Heath HW-9, Ant: Carolina Windom Short 80. Thanks all for the QSOs

OE2VEL- blew second RX after 3 hours, so was a very limited SO2R. Nice condx on 10m and 15m helped to improve score compared to 2007

P3J- A most enjoyable contest as usual, in spite of fairly mixed conditions. No VK or JA stations worked! Good to find 10m open for most of the daylight hours, and to find 20m open to NA all night and even to ZL at 03.00 local time. This was the first entry in this contest from my current QTH, and the result, in terms of gross claimed score, is my best yet.

P43JB- Surprise tst, JA/VK/ZL/YB lots of USA and EU.

PA/ON6QR- Second time in QRP for the contest: better score than in VO1. What fun just using AA batteries and a vertical from a tent location. Despite the thunder and gales, delays for battery loading, it was nice. Still have work to solve station problems for next year !
Thank you to all taking care of little signals.

PA0ATG- Mni participants so nice to do the contest special for a QRP-station.
CU next year.

PA0FEI- Very good activity on all bands. Rain and heavy thunder kept me out of the air for several hours on saturday evening.
Thanks for UFB Contest.

PA0HFT- During the night, we must shutdown the station during a very heavy Thunderstorm above the Island. Lightning strike closer than 300m from our shack....and hit the Ferry. Not really reassuring if you are on the highest dune of the Island, with antennas above your head. We tried it again round 6.00 AM, but the QRN was still S9+++++, so we can only pickup the strongish stations. Maybe next Year better.

S59A- I was going only to chase IOTAs, but then worked a few nonIOTAs too. Because I overslept the night and found in the rules 12 hours category , I stoped before contest end. All my yagis are down so it was interesting to work only with 160m dipoles and an 80 mtrs delta loop, with high SWR so the tuner of 1000Mp sometimes did not tune sufficient. But had fun anyway. Next year maybe better antennas. I was actually not going to participate or sending LOG, but you asked me for it, so here it is.

SC3N- Nice to hear HF-bands open!

SK0HS/0- I operated from Blido (EU084) one of the major islands in the archipelago of Stockholm. It is as always a very fun contest to participate in. I was lucky with the very nice weather that I had during the contest; Sunny, warm and nearly no winds. I will attend next year again.

UA3AKI- It is everything, that was kept in magazine after breakage of the computer. Excuse!

UA3BL- A very interesting contest. Especially in 12 hour category. For pensioners it is difficult to work 24 hours nonstop. But 12 hours mode is OK, moreover one can choose resting periods himself/herself. I'd advise to have the same 12 hours active period in all longlasting contests. On the other hand it keeps radioamateurs healthier because the more time one spends on sitting upright the more harmful effect he/she faces.
Anyway thanks to IOTAs organizers all the participants and CU next year!

W3AG- After my first-ever visit to London in June, (I even attended the Queens birthday parade!), I wanted to participate in the RSGBs IOTA contest. ZL2BR- The contest start time coincided with the arrival of a strong storm with winds up to 120kmh. Lost my 80m and 6m antenna but the rest survived. Operated on 40m for the first three hours midnight-3.0am (1500utc) without a great deal of success, just 65 contacts. Got back in the shack around 11am (2300utc)and spend most of the afternoon on 20m, working mainly NA stations. Then on to 40m to work Eu LP and then W/JA etc. 20m was disappointing, only worked one Eu station. Best period was 0200-0400utc with 114 contacts on 20m, mainly NA.
Southern Eu was better on 40m LP than SP, with some good signal from that area. Northern Eu stations were very weak or non-existent.
